The Photo Collective Annual Food Photography Retreat

This 3 day photography retreat for members of the Photo Collective is a chance to go deeper into editorial food photography work, the magic of light (both natural AND artificial) and creative collaboration.
Some of the things we'll explore:

Assignments based on styling direction—just like a creative brief. Think: “shoot this cocktail with minimal styling, in a masculine aesthetic, using darker tones.” This is the kind of real-world direction you’ll often get from clients, and we’ll practice bringing it to life.

Creating a mini body of work around one subject (like a blog post or client gallery). For example, if your focus is granola, you might create an ingredient shot, a finished recipe, a lifestyle photo, a hand-in-frame moment—something cohesive and story-driven.

Incorporating human elements into your work—adding life, movement, or mood without it feeling staged or awkward.

Collaborative shooting assignments with a partner, because creative chemistry can spark big breakthroughs.

A chance to play with artificial light
This class is designed for deeper creative exploration, intention, and storytelling—using food as the medium and photography as the voice. We'll go beyond "what looks good" and talk about what says something.
