ONLINE
CLASSES

Did you know that the completion rate for online classes is between 5% and 15%? Turns out, most of us don’t have the time or attention span to sit for more hours behind our computers. Not that surprising, right?

We decided to do online learning a different way.

Introducing The Photo Collective Membership

When you join The Photo Collective Membership, you will have unlimited access to a library of mini-classes; classes that are around an hour or so in length (give or take) each focusing on a particular topic in food or product photography.

Currently, there are 9 mini classes with many more to come, as the library will continue to be updated. (To learn more about which classes are in the library, as well as answers to other questions, scroll down to our FAQs.)

These mini-classes are designed to be straightforward, enjoyable, and packed with practical insights.

They're short enough to fit seamlessly into your busy schedule, offering tangible skills you can immediately apply to your photography. No pressure or deadlines—just learn at your own pace without being glued to your screen for hours.

How much is it? Just $25 per month. If you opt for the annual membership, you'll get 2 months FREE ($250/year.)

No commitment-- you can easily cancel your account anytime.

What is included in The Photo Collective Membership?

•Unlimited access to our expanding library of mini classes. There are currently 9 photography mini-classes in the library and more to come later this year. We will be adding to the library on an ongoing basis, so there will always be new information and content to explore..

•Membership in a private Facebook group moderated by your instructor, Clare Barboza, where you can share work, seek advice, and connect with fellow photographers.

•Monthly group meetings (via Zoom) with Clare for direct feedback

•A monthly newsletter curated by Clare, packed with exclusive content tailored for our photo community. For example, in the first newsletter, Clare shares her insights on building a prop collection, interviews one of her favorite food stylists on the planet (Adam Pearson) and shares some of her less successful work and what she did to improve it.

"I took Clare’s workshop to learn more about her process and what goes on in her head while she is working. I learned SO much, she shared not only her techniques but more importantly, her thought process."

"Clare Barboza is one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. She knows her stuff and owns it. Perhaps the best word to describe Clare’s class — and herself— is generous."

"The demos are key to understanding the assignments before you embark on your own creative process."

What is the format of the classes?
The classes are video based. Clare walks through some general principles of a topic and then demos those principles on camera. Each class includes 4-6 demos of different photo shoots.

In the 15 years Clare has taught workshops, students have consistently shared that the photo demos (and her talking about her process through those demos) are the most valuable parts of their learning experience. So, the mini classes are based around that information.

Why mini-classes? Why not full-length?
Our original plan was to offer full-length classes online. However, after much thought and a lot of research, we decided it didn’t make sense for our business for a lot of reasons.

Also, did you know that the completion rate for online classes is between 5% and 15%? Turns out, most of us don’t have the time or attention span to sit for more hours behind our computers. Mini-classes, on the other hand, have a much higher completion rate because they are doable in an afternoon.
Who is the instructor?
That would be Clare Barboza– co-owner of Poppy Bee Surfaces (and the one who does all of the photography and marketing for the website) as well as a food and lifestyle photographer for the past 15 years, (and a photographer in other genres for years longer than that, so she may know a thing or two about the topic.) 😊

How experienced do I need to be as a photographer to get value out of these mini classes?
You can be any level of photographer, using any kind of camera. That said, you will get even more value out of the classes if you have access to a DSLR or a mirrorless camera where you can program your own settings. However, this is not required.

What kind of camera will I need?
You can use a mirrorless camera, a DSLR or your phone. The classes are meant to be accessible for anyone, as mentioned above.
How long will I have access to the classes?
As long as you are a member.
What is the cost?
$25/ month OR you can get 2 months for FREE if you pay annually, ($250/ year.)
Will you be still doing in-person workshops?
HECK, YEAH!! Those aren’t going anywhere and there are plans for lots more!
What if I subscribe and it’s just not my thing?
You can cancel anytime.
I have an idea for something I’d like to see as a mini class– can I suggest it to you?
YES! Please do! We want to hear all your ideas and feedback. These classes are for YOU and, above all else, we want you to feel like this is a membership with tremendous value for you.
