understanding & elevating composition in food photography

This FREE 1 hour mini class will show you the exact compositional tricks and thought process I use in client work, cookbooks, and commercial shoots — so you can start creating soulful, story-driven images right now.

If you’ve ever looked at your photo and thought

Ugh. Why isn’t this working?”

…this is probably why.

Composition is the unsung hero of powerful food photography.

It’s what makes an image feel balanced, emotional, alive.

And the best part?
You don’t need to be a pro to use it well.

in this 1-hour class,I'll walk you through...

  • The 5 pillars of what makes an impactful composition

  • The tools I use to bring soul + story to every image

  • Real-life examples from my own work + step-by-step breakdowns

  • How to find YOUR visual rhythm (not just mimic Pinterest)

who it's for...

  • Food photographers at any level

  • Food bloggers, stylists, chefs, and creators

  • Anyone stuck in the “my photo just isn’t there yet” spiral

Hi, I’m Clare Barboza—professional photographer for over 25 years, with the last 15 focused on food.

I’m also the co-owner of Poppy Bee Surfaces (and yep, every single photo on this site? I took it).

Over the years, I’ve shot more than three dozen cookbooks and collaborated with brands, chefs, farms, and restaurants across the country.

Since 2008, I’ve been leading photography workshops, and they’ve become one of the most meaningful parts of my work.

Helping others uncover their creative voice—and actually trust it—isn’t just something I love; it feels like a big part of why I do what I do.
